Hello!

Who am I?

My name is Suzi and I am a portrait painter based in Cornwall.

I love to make things and have done since I was very young. Whether it was sewing, woodwork, drawing… I dabbled in it all!

Since graduating from Falmouth University, I have worked as a designer, managing a variety of print based projects - from concept through to print - involving  branding, editorial design and everything in between. I have a love of typography, layout design and clear communication.

Later completing a P.G.C.E at Exeter University, I taught in a Design & Technology specialist College where I was responsible for teaching a wide range of design related subjects including Resistant Materials and Product Design.

These days, if I'm not busy painting faces, I can usually be found writing and illustrating stories for children. If you see me in the picture book section in Waterstone’s ( or any other book shop), I am probably going to be there for a while!

I like to keep my paintings fresh, modern and a little fun!

What inspires me to paint?

What inspires me to paint? Curiosity about life; emotions, secrets, souls, traits, idiosyncrasies, unspoken truths. I love to take the unassuming and quiet thoughts and bring them to the front of the stage, expressing the understated flamboyance in every personality.

For me, the beauty of a human face lies within the lines and the colour behind the eyes. Every expression communicates a sea of thought and captures a moment in time never to be regained, serving to prove how temporary our emotions – and even our problems – can be and how transient our relationships with people and our surroundings can become.

A portrait enables us to press pause on life and reflect on what and who truly matters to us.

I like to keep my paintings fresh, modern and a little fun where appropriate. I take great pride in what I do and, most importantly, love to help clients realise an idea with fervour, passion and a little pizazz.

Whilst I can be a stickler for the details, my biggest joy comes in the freedom I feel as I am using loose mark making to picture the individual subject. That’s when I see the person really come alive. That’s when I am inspired to want to know more about the person and am curious to understand what they are thinking and feeling during this split second of life. And why. That is how I would like the viewer of my paintings to feel too. Everyone has a story and I love to paint it.
